It said, “The Russian Football Union and the head coach of Russia’s national team, Fabio Capello, have reached an agreement to terminate the employment contract by mutual agreement.”

Russia is third in his qualifying group for the UEFA Euro 2016 in France. They are in a tough situation regarding a possible advance from the group. Capello worked without getting his payments for eight months before. RFU had financial problems, but Alisher Usmanov, a shareholder of Arsenal helped the union with a loan to pay the Italian coach. The statement said, “The RFU sincerely thanks Fabio Capello for his work as head coach and wishes him success in his future career. Fabio Capello, in turn, thanks the RFU for the help and support he has felt throughout the years. He is also grateful to the players for working together and to the fans for their sincere support for the team.”

Russia were defeated by Austria 1-0 last month. The loss seriously hurt their chances for qualifying for the UEFA Euro 2016. Considering the poor form of the national team, the fact that Russia sacked Capello shouldn’t upset keen followers of sports scores. After his 2014 contract extension, the RFU was reportedly facing a compensation of EUR 21 million if terminating Capello’s contract. However, a mutual consent is more beneficial for RFU. Fabio Capello, who coached the English national team before, started to work with the Russian national team in 2012. Later he got a contract extension until the end of the 2018 World Cup. Latest gambling news report that the RFU will pay Capello a compensation of GBP 10.5 million.
