The parcel where the Indian tribe plans on building the casino resort is occupied by an industrial park now. Tauton Mayor Tom Hoye believes that if his town got a new tribal casino resort, that would result in “a great economic boost” for his area. Meanwhile tribal chairman Cedric Cromwell said that they have always been confident about their prospects and are waiting for positive answers.

Online gambling news in the United States report that the US Department of the Interior has given a 30-day comment period on the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe’s casino project. They submitted their application back in the beginning of 2013. Tribal chairman Cedric Cromwell said it was a positive sign that the plan is moving forward and the case is still not closed down.

The Taunton office park is near the junction of routes 140 and 24. That is where the tribe wishes to build their new tribal casino resort. The Mashpee tribe has applied for the land-in-trust project of the government and their application is still being processed. They have started planning in 2012 and their idea was taken positively.

In the beginning the federal government has taken the project with lots of scepticism and doubts. That is, because they believed that a gaming agreement between the tribe and the state was not such a great idea. They were not sure if the project would be approved by the Gaming Commission.

The tribe received a letter on Friday, 21 August that they will get the final answer within 30 days. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is expected to issue a reservation proclamation, however they would do that only in case of their initial reservation was granted by the government, said Arlinda Locklear, tribal lawyer.

Meanwhile, Rodney Collins, Town Manager of Mashpee, has said that he has not received any official notification. Collins added that they are still waiting and hoping for it to arrive soon.

Cedric Cromwell, tribal chairman, has said that it was a surprise to receive the letter to Taunton. Of course it made them really excited even though it is still not a positive closure.

Indian tribes are given permission to offer the same types of gambling where casinos are legalized, thanks to the federal laws. However, state agencies are unlikely to regulate tribal casino. That is more of a job for the National Indian Gaming Commission.
