Chile Wins First Title as Argentina Becoming Football’s Losers

Another final, another defeat for Argentina. This time an awkward and sour one, especially for Lionel Messi, who had a quiet game against the tight-marking Chile defense, and whose family, online gambling news report, was abused by the overwhelmed Chile fans in Estadio Nacional. As the sides were unable to find the back of the nets, the game went to penalties, and Alexis Sanxhez, who missed his spot-kick against Brazil a year ago that saw Chile crashing out from the World Cup in the round of 16, stepped up to score with a half-Panenka. Through that, the ex-Barcelona forward, who led Arsenal’s frontline last season, helped Chile to their first trophy 99 years after La Roja participated in the inaugural edition of the Copa America.

Chile waited 99 years for this, and in the end it came down to Alexis Sanchez, who had to score the decisive penalty in the shootout against Argentina in the 2015 Copa America final. Sanchez went for a Panenka, and though he failed to perform the trick-shot perfectly, he scored anyway as Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero threw his body towards the left post.

Gonzalo Higuain and Ever Banega failed to score from 12 yards previously, which meant that Chile won its first ever Copa America title, 99 years after they participated in the first edition of the tournament alongside Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. Meanwhile Argentina lost another final and it is now 22 years for them without any trophy, as experts of gambling facts might know it.

This wonderful generation that produced players like Lionel Messi, Javier Mascherano or Sergio Aguero might end their careers without any trophies at international level eventually, while fellow Argentinian Jorge Sampaoli was able to command Chile to victory in a stadium that was used as a prison at the beginning of Augusto Pinochet’s reign.

WorldSoccerTalk.com: Alexis Sanchez’s impressive year crowned by Copa America victory

Alexis Sanchez scored the winning penalty against Argentina in arguably the most important year of his career. He was amazing in his first year for Arsenal after he left Barcelona, and he was able to capitalize on his good form at the Copa America too, where he was an integral member of the team that delivered the first ever title for host nation Chile.

At Barcelona his main task was to give the ball to Lionel Messi and to win it back before giving it to Messi. However, anyone who follows sports scores might have noticed that in the past few years he emerged as one of the best forwards in the world, transforming from a quick winger, who is very good at pressing to a reliable goal scorer.

Sanchez virtually swapped roles with Luis Suarez, as the Chile international had to move after the Uruguayan world class player was acquired from Liverpool. Sanchez went to the Premier League to lead a team and to become PFA Fans’ Player of the Year, and at the Copa he helped his team with industrious work. After missing a penalty against Brazil in the shootout at the World Cup a year ago, he scored with his spot-kick this time to defeat Argentina.

Just-football.com: 22 Years, 6 Finals, 6 Defeats: Argentina Lose Another Final As Agonising Wait Continues

Though Javier Mascherano and Lionel Messi won everything with Barcelona this season, they lost two finals with Argentina in a year. Last summer at the World Cup in Brazil, they were defeated by Germany in overtime, while this time at the 2015 Copa America, host nation Chile proved to be a better penalty taking team than La Albiceleste.

Argentina is one of the biggest footballing nations, however, the national team has won no trophy in 22 years. Their last success came in 1993 at the Copa America in Ecuador, when they beat Mexico in the final with a brace from Gabriel Batistuta. Since then Brazil won it four times, Uruguay conquered the continent twice, even Colombia and now Chile was able to deliver a title.

Argentina has a generation now that won everything at youth level, with two U-20 World Cup victories and two gold medals at the Olympics between 2004 and 2008, as followers of live sports results might remember, yet fail to win a single trophy when competing with the grown-ups.

There are many reasons to follow Copa America

There are many reasons to follow Copa America

Since this is the only major tournament in the summer, everybody who loves the game or enjoys betting on football should watch this remarkable tournament. Maybe in not every match but spectacular football is guaranteed and you can make some money on it. Watch the greatest strikers in the world you get to know future prospects during the tournament!

Possibly the scouting team of your favourite club is also watching the games, and though this is not a youth tournament, you might be still proud to yourself if you found a talented but obscure footballer who will end up at some major European club in the summer. So, if you did not watch the games so far, have a look at our points, and make sure you will be in front of the telly when the next game kicks off!

WorldSoccerTalk.com: 5 Reasons to Watch the Copa América

The Copa America is always a terrific event, but this year the competition between Argentina and Brazil will be as fierce as ever, after both of them failed to win the World Cup in South America last year. But here are even more reasons to join the action in front of your TV set.

Though Luis Suarez is suspended you will still find a lot of superstars in Chile including Lionel Messi, Neymar, Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero. Moreover the scheduling is also awesome for those followers of sports scores who watching the tournament from the Americas. The Europeans though still have to solve a problem similar to the one they faced twelve months ago.

The squads participating in the tournament also feature around a score of Premier League stars amongst others, so if you don’t like to observe teams fielding wholly unknown players, you will find a bunch of familiar names in almost every game.

WhoScored.com: Messi 2.0 ready to lead Argentina from the wilderness

Lionel Messi made his debut for Argentina 10 years ago, but he is yet to win his first trophy with the team. There is a perfect occasion for that, as he was reborn after the World Cup final that was lost in extra time last summer, to lead Barcelona to an historic treble. Now he has a task to go all the way in the Copa America to get his country level on the number of titles with Uruguay.

Of course, Messi wasn’t the only player in that Barcelona squad that won everything this season. The arrivals of Ivan Rakitic from Sevilla and Luis Suarez from Liverpool were main contributors to the success, however, the biggest effort obviously came from the Argentina captain, who changed for this season, together with Barcelona, and everything came off for them.

“We won every competition we entered and it’s incredible to do the treble again,” expressed Messi, according to gambling news. He added, “Thankfully, we were able to fulfil our objectives with our club and hopefully we can now gain more success with the national team which is what we all want.”

The Guardian: Guemez, Salcedo and Corona ones to watch at Copa America

Mexico’s main target for this summer is to win the Gold Cup, and in order to give a rest for his key players, Mexico manager Miguel “Piojo” Herrera virtually named a reserve squad to the 44th edition of Copa America. He left out high-profile players like Javier Hernandez, Andres Guardado, Giovani dos Santos and several others.

Still he stated that Mexico is able to win the Copa America with this squad, though El Tri never managed to win the competition in eight previous attempts. With the need of deploying two different squads, he called up virtually unknown players in international football, as well as names who weren’t featured by the national side recently, online mobile news report.

There are a few young players who could take on the opportunity to secure themselves a starting spot for the near future. Javier Guemez is a calm but aggressive defensive midfielder, while the 21-year-old centre-back, Carlos Salcedo, is the youngest in the squad, still playing like an experienced defender. Jesus “Tecatito” Corona is a brave forward, but in order to become the top asset of the team, he must stop trying to do everything by himself.

Chile Will Never Have an Opportunity like This Again

Chile National Football Team is Ready for Copa America

Chile National Football Team is Ready for Copa America

Chile participated in the first edition of the Copa America 99 years ago in Buenos Aires, still they did not won a single tournament yet. Now they have an excellent squad featuring world class footballers and capable of playing the fastest and most intense pressing game around. Chile uses an approach that is arguably the most up-to-date in football, though they will be under exaggerated pressure playing in front of their home crowd. Chile came very close to eliminate Brazil in the World Cup last year, and though they were unlucky then, their time might have come to achieve something big.

The Guardian: Chile host Copa América with best chance to end 99-year wait for title

Chile participated in the very first edition of the Copa America in Buenos Aires in 1916 together with Brazil, Uruguay and the hosts, Argentina. Uruguay, being arguably the best national team in the world that time, won that tournament and added 14 more Copa titles later, while Argentina captured 14 titles and Brazil also managed to win 8 Copas to date.

And Chile did not win one. But now they have probably the best chance to alter this record. They have top quality players in Claudio Bravo, Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez, with a compact team that can play in 3-4-1-2 and 4-3-3 as well, always pressing and dictating a very high tempo.

They almost eliminated Brazil last summer in the round 16 of the World Cup, but the crossbar and the penalty shootout favoured the hosts then. However, Chile’s time might have come finally, though the injuries of Mauricio Isla and Eduardo Vargas hurts their chances according to latest gambling news.

ESPNFC.com: The Copa America: A summer of vindication and redemption awaits

The current Chile national team is the most talented the country ever had, so, as they will be playing on home soil, they will have as good a chance to win the Copa America they will never have again. Not to mention the strength of their group which is the easiest in the tournament, also featuring Ecuador, Mexico and Bolivia.

The prolific striker of Arsenal, Alexis Sanchez said that “The time has come to achieve big things.” However, this tournament will be also about the two South American giants. After Brazil were humiliated by Germany 7-1 in the semifinals, and Argentina were just beaten by Joachim Low’s side in the final, both teams have something to prove at the Copa.
The latter won its last trophy 22 years ago, and was struggling in the previous edition of the Copa at home. However they were able to find a way to bring out the most from Lionel Messi since, and the No. 10 is arguably in the best form of his career, which might be easily the best form in any football player’s career ever, according to many followers of sports scores.

WSC.co.uk: Pressure on Chile to end Copa América hoodoo

Though Chile has been present at the Copa America since it was first organized in 1916, they have never won the competition. Nations like Peru, Bolivia and Colombia were all had the opportunity to celebrate a Copa victory but this never happened with Chileans before. However, now they have a real chance to experience that feeling.

Chile hosted six Copas before, but they only reached the final once. National team coach Jorge Sampaoli, realizing the level of expectations amongst the fans, planned to take the squad to Europe to prepare for the tournament properly. However they opted to stay at home instead, placing the team’s facilities and the roads nearby under heavy security surveillance.

A Chilean TV station tried to make pictures of the squad’s training by deploying a drone, however when the device flew over the training pitch, Sampaoli ordered his team to leave the field. All media workers were also banned from the training center immediately, gambling news report.
